Hospice East Bay is celebrating our 40th year serving our communities. We are proud to have been a pioneer hospice program serving patients and families from the beginning of the hospice movement. We have come a long way over the past 40 years. We continue to provide first-class service to our patients and families through our expert clinical staff, as well as through all our administrative and thrift shoppe staff who contribute so much to our mission.
We welcomed three new Board members in January: Michelle Lopes, VP Clinical Services, CNO, John Muir Health, Walnut Creek campus; Linda Trowbridge, CEO, Center for Elder Independence (a PACE program serving the East Bay); and Dr. Julie Freedman, Palliative Care and Palliative Care Program Director at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. Their wealth of knowledge of the health care industry in the East Bay will be an excellent resource for us as we navigate the ever-changing healthcare landscape.
Our 2017 Celebration of Care was a big success. Themed as “A Kentucky Derby Party,” there was horse racing, bourbon tasting and lots of betting! The event raised over $240,000 for our programs and services.
Our new Pleasant Hill shoppe, at 959 Contra Costa Blvd, is building its customer base thanks to our wonderful Pleasant Hill team. If you have not seen this new store yet, please stop by—and remember to let your family and friends know about it for shopping and donating!
The shoppes also had a successful “Staycation” sale the weekend of June 5th, selling travel items and getting shoppers ready for vacation time.
Finally, I am very proud of our results from the Hospice Quality Reporting Program, which reflect the quality of care we provide—we exceeded the national score in all seven categories! Thank you to our clinical staff for providing and documenting excellent quality and compassionate care.
Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. – Mark Twain
