A New Era of Not-for-Profit Hospice Care

Hospice East Bay, the East Bay’s longest-operating community-based nonprofit hospice, is proud to announce the finalization of its affiliation with Chapters Health System, the nation’s largest nonprofit hospice network and a nationally recognized leader in innovative chronic illness care. Hospice East Bay now officially joins the Chapters Health West division, which also includes Hospice of Santa Cruz County (Santa Cruz, CA), Nathan Adelson Hospice (Las Vegas, NV), and Willamette Vital Health (Salem, OR).

For nearly 50 years, Hospice East Bay has provided exceptional care, support, and bereavement services to patients and families facing serious illness. In 2024 alone, Hospice East Bay cared for more than 1,300 patients in the communities it serves and provided more than $308,000 in charitable and uncompensated care to those in need.

Preserving Local Identity and Mission

Hospice East Bay will continue to operate under its own name, leadership, and long-standing identity as a trusted community nonprofit. This affiliation is not a take-over, but rather a partnership that strengthens our ability to preserve and expand not-for-profit hospice care in the East Bay. Chapters Health System, like Hospice East Bay, is a nonprofit organization committed to putting patients and families first. Together, we are building a stronger future for community-based, mission-driven hospice care, ensuring that compassion—not profit—remains at the heart of everything we do.

“Hospice East Bay is honored to finalize our affiliation with Chapters Health System and to work alongside our colleagues in the Chapters Health West division,” said Chris Falley, Executive Director of Hospice East Bay. “This partnership allows us to embrace the challenges of today’s healthcare landscape, expand our programs and services, and ensure that our community continues to receive the highest quality of care for years to come.”

National Strength, Local Commitment

“By joining forces with Hospice East Bay and other leading nonprofit hospices in the West, we are building a stronger, more resilient future for community-based, mission-driven care,” said Andrew Molosky, MBA, CHPCA, President and CEO of Chapters Health System. “This affiliation underscores our commitment to patients, families, and caregivers by ensuring that compassion—not profit—remains at the center of hospice care.”

While united under the Chapters Health umbrella, each organization within Chapters Health West maintains its own leadership, culture, and community ties. The generous support of our donors and shoppers will continue to stay local. This balance ensures that care remains deeply personal and locally grounded while leveraging the collective strengths of a national nonprofit leader. “As we officially welcome Hospice East Bay into the Chapters Health family, we are excited to work in lock step with our shared mission to continuously elevate home and community-based, end-of-life care while at the same time preserve its long-standing tradition in the community,” added Molosky.
